Dr. Rajaram is a geotechnical and environmental engineer with 44 years of experience in sustainable environmental management. He has completed several large projects related to underground construction, hazardous waste management, storm water management, wastewater treatment and recycling, and municipal solid waste management. Dr. Rajaram has authored over 40 papers in construction, waste management and mining engineering, and published five books: 1. Sustainable Mining Practices – A Global Perspective, 2005, Taylor & Francis (T&F), United Kingdom; 2. From Landfill Gas to Energy – Technologies and Challenges, 2011, T&F; 3. Ecology and Environment, 2016, TERI Press, Delhi, India; 4. Solid and Liquid Waste Management – Waste to Wealth, 2016, Prentice Hall India; and 5. Golden Giving – Everything you need to know for an Enriched, Socially Conscious Retirement, 2017, Amazon.com. He obtained his B.E. from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, in 1970, a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1978, and a J.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Kent College of Law, Chicago, in 1991.
Dr. Rajaram has managed geotechnical engineering and construction projects for the Deep Tunnel project in Chicago. His company, Midwest Engineers, was responsible for the construction of a 32-foot diameter shaft for facilitating the boring of 30-foot diameter tunnels for combined sewer overflows. Several large connecting structures were built to connect the shallow combined sewers to the deep tunnel system. His passion is to recycle every drop of water for beneficial use, especially the recycling of treated wastewater for agriculture. He has presented papers on preventing contamination of our water resources by industrial and municipal waste in India and US.
Dr. Rajaram was a Director of the Center of Transformation of Waste Technology, and was involved in the Hammond Wastewater Treatment Plant for beneficial utilization of high-nitrate treated wastewater. He was responsible for the design of storage reservoirs and pipeline system to convey 38 million gallons of treated water to 8,000 acres of farmland and public lands.
Dr. Rajaram is currently with CCJM Engineers Ltd, Chicago, Illinois. CCJM specializes in deployment of technologies for energy and green municipal infrastructure design and construction. He is very active in community affairs, and is a member of the following organizations: Lions Club, Oak Brook, IL; Sonoma Ashram’s Eye Hospital in India; Illinois Tech Alumni Association, Chicago, IL; and Engineers Without Borders, Chicago Professional Chapter, and EWB-India. In 2004, he co-founded India Development Coalition of America (www.idc-america.org) for sustainable rural development in India.
